Food bank on hold
We have put our food bank on hold for the moment. It will come back if the need arises. Meanwhile, there is a yellow bin outside the Matfen shop, so please put anything you can contribute in that bin.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously ~ and thank you to Michele who has led this initiative.
Can you spare some items?
It has now become apparent that some families in the Church Parish area are struggling from lack of income. Revd Rachel is busy setting up food banks in Stamfordham and Matfen and would be delighted if we would do the same in Great Whittington. We are at the early stages of organising this but would like to get going asap so as to be able to help those in need.
Several of our helpers have volunteered to organise this and Michele is going to co-ordinate it. For now we are going to put a box for food/toiletries on a bench in the village hall garden. This will be put out each day and taken in early evening. The supplies will be taken to Stamfordham to be sorted once a week. This may change if there is a need for more perishable food.
So if you can spare a few items please pop them in the box. e.g. pasta, sauces, cereal, tins, sugar, sweets, toiletries, etc If anyone has nappies in a cupboard these could be useful. For now we are not aware of need for clothing or toys but will keep you updated if this changes.
Hopefully when the system is up and running we will be able to give a day for the Stamfordham collection so more perishable items might be donated.
